Absolut Branding

Well, I fell for it at least. :P AbsolutTracks presents a smooth and stylish ride where four club music producers have interpreted the brand of Absolut Vodka. Free downloads of tracks and videos by DJ Vadim and Monika Kruse, to mention the more well-known. I think I know what they want in return… Good, bad or ugly? It might not be the most ethical way to sell alcohol, but I like this kind of branding, keep them coming. :)

Perfect Draft

Ooh.. This is just what my desk needs next to the espresso maker when I move on Sunday! :) Philips and InterBrew came up with this great idea of bringing the taste of draught beer into the home. The beer of your preferred brand is tapped from a light metal tin, and kept cold by the internal cooling system! Me wants a PerfectDraft! :)

Not Ready For Mini-albums

“You’re ahead of your time and it’s killing you!”, is what 50 Foot Wave was told by the labels and promoters on their European tour. Their plan to release 5-6 song recordings every 9 months has not been taken seriously by either retail, radio or the press. In consultation with both their European and US partners, they decided to release a full-length CD in February 2005, which will include 3 remixed songs taken from their first mini album. I really hope they will keep trying this new concept. I love EP’s, and would rather have releases in shorter intervals. It works for fans, why not the industry?

Atlantis Lovelorn Tour

The Atlantis Lovelorn Tour visited Debaser in Stockholm this Tuesday. Fredrik Strage reviewed the gig in todays DN. Apparently only about 50 people showed up. Might have been 51 if I’d found out about it in time. I wouldn’t mind seeing Leaves’ Eyes or Elis… but the truth is, I probably wouldn’t have gone anyway. :P Not my type of crowd I guess. Also playing were Battlelore and Atrocity.

Aimee At St. Ann’s

November 2nd is the release date set for Aimee Mann’s new live DVD. Recorded at St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York, the DVD features 16 tracks, as well as two new songs (“Going Through The Motions” and “King Of The Warehouse”). Along with the 5.1 sound, exclusive interviews, behind the scenes footage and a widescreen format, you’ll get a bonus live CD. Check back every monday for a new full streaming audio clip!

WordPress 1.2.1

Upgraded to WordPress 1.2.1. Hope I didn’t overwrite anything important. :)

!K7 Respect Music

!K7 Records call for a respectful attitude towards music. Shortly after Sony announced they will stop using copy control, !K7 take it one step further! From now on, all their releases will carry a new logo: “NO copy protection – respect the music“.

“This makes it clear that you’ve bought a CD and you can use it however you want. It’s also clear, therefore, that good music has a prerogative – it has a right to be treated with respect.”

Finally a label who understand that copy protection kills customer relationships.

Listen Up!

Started watching Listen Up, the new CBS comedy starring Jason Alexander, or George Costanza from Seinfeld, as most people would know him. :) As seen in season 2 of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, Jason probably wants to leave Costanza behind him. He’s not doing it with this show, that’s for sure. In “Listen Up”, I see his role of Tony Kleinman as a mature and grown up George with wife and kids. He’s got his dreamjob from Seinfeld as a sports writer- and commentator, but in this more family oriented show. This may not sound too good, but it’s definately not bad. I have a feeling it will grow on me.

Slacker Sunday

Me and Tobbe went up early today to catch the McDonalds breakfast before 11. Complemented my record collection with 2 classics, Patti Smith’s “Horses” and Depeche Mode’s “Ultra”. 2 for 99 at Expert. :) We were supposed to have some coffee with Martin, but when we called he was so hung over/busy, so we spent the rest of the day listening to some dub. We also managed to track down the great track we heard at The Olsson Brothers Garlic & Shots bar. “The Marvels – Rock Steady”. Ended up with rain, rain, rain and no coffee.

MC Soom-T

I’ve heard her on several tracks now from both Bus and The Orb. A background check leads me to the Glasgow formation Monkeytribe, dedicated to the underground aspects of hiphop. She’s from Glasgow, been rapping since ’98 and was crowned Scotland’s best MC and the UK’s best female MC in 2003! Sings really good too… Hope she will do some more stuff with the guys from Berlin, or maybe even with my house hero Armand van Helden, who she lists as an influence. :) Don’t miss the free downloads.

U-Myx Review

At first it looked like a dream come true for music fans and remixers, but Muse’s new single equipped with U-myx only seem to have charmed fans who didn’t expect much. This is definately not a revolution. You can scarcely just switch on and off the different parts of the song. Listen to my rough “Calm Before The Storm Mix”, and you’ll get the picture. The good news is that U-myx can only get better. Try me again when you can actually add your own sounds and ideas, or at least have more elements to play with.

College Of Fine Arts

My aunt and uncle from Australia are here visiting, and he gave me this demo DVD from COFA, College of fine arts at the university of New South Wales in Sydney, where he works. The DVD showcases lot’s of nice work by students in visual arts, design and digital media. I haven’t watched the info stuff yet, but it seems like a really good school. Check it out if you’re thinking of studying any of the above, or art education and art history. I will. :)

Aimee Mann And The Young Snakes

A visit to the Aimee Mann messageboard always pays. This thread reports that an album with her first band ever, The Young Snakes, will be reissued on CD in the UK. :)

“I was this 18-year-old in crisis. What was I going to do with my life? I didn’t know anything about music.”

..is how Aimee remembers it according to the archives of Aimee Mann in print, and this is what citypaper.net think about the original vinyl ep. I’m excited. :)

Berlin Digital…

..A Guide Through The Electronic Music Scene was a very nice experience! This documentary DVD takes you on a journey through the largest scene for electronic music worldwide. Interviews with artists, record labels, companies and distributors, gives you a rough overview of the subculture. Their enthusiasm and love for music is really infectious, and shines through the screen. :) I feel very inspired after watching it, and would recommend it to any fan of electronic music, especially if you like the Berlin sound. Personal highlights: Ellen Allien at BPitch Control, Alexander Kowalski and the P-Pack collective.

Wacky Wheels

Sweet nostalgia. :) For some reason, I got the desire to play the old Wacky Wheels game by Apogee. I used to love that game back in 1994, especially the deathmatch multiplayer mode. I found the full version of it here, but to play it, you will also need a DOS emulator. Dosbox did the trick. Only thing missing now is some kind of null modem emulator so I can play it over the internet. I hope VSPD.net will work. If not, the game at least has split screen mode. Phil’s got a nice fanpage for it.
Update: VSPD didn’t seem to work.. any help appreciated!

Vagabond Lullabies

Po’ Girl began as a side project of Trish Klein (from the Be Good Tanyas). Their second album, Vagabond Lullabies, is released on Nettwerk on September 21, and features a unique mix of blues, gypsy fiddle, punk-rock street poetry, cajun love songs, depression-era jazz and some old R&B. 14 canadian$ on A&B Sound. It’s a deal. :)

Three Notes And Runnin’

Downhill Battle is at it again! This time they’re seeking submissions for an online music compilation in protest against the current sampling rights. They’re hoping to create a forum for sample-based musicians and artists to showcase the potential and diversity of sample based music, and to call into question the relationship between a sample and its use. Read more over at 3 Notes and Runnin’.

SL Supports Spurlock?

Someone over at the SL IT department have probably seen Morgan Spurlock’s “Super Size Me”. A travel planner search for “dödlig mat” to “dödlig mat” (deadly food) gives you “Mc Donalds to Mc Donalds”. :) Update: Not working any more. :/

Alec Empire vs. Rammstein

I’m surprised to see that Alec Empire has remixed Rammstein’s new “Amerika” single (International release on October 4). Alec questioned Rammstein’s sincerity in this interview with MTV back in 1998.

“Rammstein is successful for all the wrong reasons. I think they’re not a fascist band at all, but I think in Germany there’s a lot of misunderstanding and that’s why they sell records and I think that’s dangerous.” … “And I’m still waiting for them to make a real statement”

I wonder if this remix is his first step to selling out, or if the whole thing just have been straightened out?
