34 more days until Tori opens up her beehive.. 19 new songs, one featuring Damien Rice, and a special edition with a bonus DVD.
IRC quote from a discussion about Steve Jobs’ Keynote at the Macworld expo:
-Wonder how many times Steve Jobs said “fantastic” during the presentation…
-Wonder how many times he though “WTF?!”
The Mac Mini seems amazing! I’ve almost decided I’m gonna get me one. It kind of depends on whether or not I can buy it without the sales tax through work.
A movie about Ian Curtis and Joy Division has been rumoured for years. Now it looks like it’s finally coming, and with passion! It will be the directional debut of photographer Anton Corbijn, and produced by Factory Records founder Anthony Wilson. Wow! But remember.. If bad, we can’t blame it on Hollywood. :P
I’ve never been good at waiting, and these three teasers for upcoming albums just turned my waiting into desperate yearning:
Teaser trailer for Porcupine Tree’s “Darkwing” (18 mb Quicktime). (March 21).
Flash Ecard for Mars Volta’s upcoming single “The Widow”. (March 1)
Download single from “The Beekeeper” by Tori Amos. (February 22)
I’m counting the seconds…
I did it. The switch to Firefox and Thunderbird. Only. No more Internet Explorer. It’s not that I had anything against it, surfing with ActiveX turned off kept me worry free, and old habits die hard… Reading this at work today however made me abandon it with 5 easy clicks (or something like it). :) Those import guides were just phenomenal! Never been easier. Didn’t have to do one thing manually. I’m feeling very refreshed.
After a tough year, Kirsty Hawkshaw is finally back with somewhat more independent projects for 2005! She’s been working alongside DJ’s and dance producers for a couple of years now to take the pressure off with promotion, and spend time with her baby instead. Here’s what to look for:
The Centre Cannot Hold EP by Digitonal
Features Kirsty on the track “Mari Stella”. Her ethereal vocals in combination with their beautiful, progressive and organic electronica is simply outstanding. Released on Seed.
Mini Album on Big Chill
Working with Andy Dobson from Digitonal, there will hopefully be a mini album out soon on the Big Chill label. The music will be similar to what she released on O.U.T.
On Ultimate Things re-released through the website
Her great solo debut with some minor changes. The cover song “For You” will be replaced by another. There will also be some bonus tracks, most likely previously unheard remixes. Should be available for order online by the end of February.
Buster Keaton’s first feature film Three Ages from 1923 has been digitally restored, with a new soundtrack by techno pioneer Jeff Mills! It’s released by MK2 on DVD where you also get Jeff’s new score on a separate CD. Read more about it here. I normally wouldn’t care about silent films, but since it’s Mr. Mills, I just gotta see this. :)
Sigh.. Got home just in time to stop an ongoing trackback spam attack. :( Just turning it off in options wasn’t enough. I had to use SQL to set all entries in the database to ping_status “closed”. My choice now is to either live without trackbacks (shouldn’t be a problem), or find another anti-spam plugin that can handle both comments and pings.
Knowing that Alias is back for it’s fourth season today will probably ease my waking up process in the morning. :) In addition to my excitement, I also discovered this prequel book, Infiltration, by one of the writers of the show.
Found it cheapest at Akademibokhandeln, which wasn’t even included in the price comparison at bokfynd.nu.
You should hurry to invite Brendan Benson to your record collection! There are simply no excuses not to when his 4 singles are just 19 SEK each at CDon.se, and his album “Lapalco” 3.33£ at UK Amazon! His quirky lyrics on top of the catchy Beatlesque indie rock sound is just great. Buy them quick, before the sales are over!
I totally missed there was a new movie with Audrey Tautou! The trailer looks good and all, but it leaves me feeling kind of empty. I could probably blame it on that awful american narrators voice though. My confidence in monsieur Jeunet is almost unlimited after Amelie. Guess I don’t have to worry about my plans for January 28th now. :) Read more about it at imdb.
It’s been a great musical year! I almost feel spoiled. So instead of saying “these are the 10 best albums”, I’d rather present them as the 10 albums of 2004 I’m most happy about. Sorted by release date, with links to official sites and earlier entries. Feel free to comment or trackback your own lists!
In Strict Confidence – Holy (link – #1 – #2)
The slickest electropop, for both listening and dancing, with a gothish flavour.
Auf Der Maur – Auf Der Maur (link)
Melissa solo sure knows how to make great hard popish rock.
**C.Aarmé – C.Aarmé (link)
“Sweden’s punk militia”. Makes me wanna headbang wearing a Kermit mask.
Zero 7 – When It Falls (link)
Warms me during winter and chills me when it’s hot. Soulful electronica at it’s best.
Ron Sexsmith – Retriever (link)
He just keeps getting better and better.
Hope Of The States – The Lost Riots (link – #1)
This year’s britrock sensation! Believe the hype!
Blanka – Paloma Blanka (link – #1 – #2)
The debut album 2004 was all about waiting for!
Monkeytribe – Choose Freedom (link – #1)
Creative blend of organic and electronic hip/trip/hop from Glasgow.
Stina Nordenstam – The World Is Saved (link)
Her most solid album yet? Love that subtle jazz.
Sarah Blasko – The Overture And The Underscore (link)
Superb production! Intimate singer/songwriter pop from Australia.
Let’s not forget the top 5 movies:
Gegen die Wand (imdb)
My absolute favourite is this dark but beautiful Turkish/German drama. You really need to grab on to those few glimpses of light to get through it. Very moving.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (imdb – #1)
Bad Santa (imdb – #1)
Cold Mountain (imdb – #1)
Collateral (imdb – #1)
“You get tragedy where the tree, instead of bending, breaks.”
-Ludwig Wittgenstein
The server redvolume.com is on was hacked during xmas. Hopefully Pentry has secured the server now (The reason why it’s been going up and down). So far, this is the only problem I’ve had with them. Guess something had to happen once at least.
Today I got an impulse to buy all those DVD’s I’ve been wanting for some time now. Before I moved, I sold off all movies I didn’t think I’d watch again. Not leaving that many left, I now try to keep my DVD shelf clean and essential. First I ordered Criterion’s gorgeous edition of “Short Cuts” from CD-Wow. Read the review of it at dvdforum.nu and drool. :) While surfing around at CD-Wow, I also decided to preorder the third season of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”. Great price! Finally having money to order the Seinfeld season 1+2 box, I couldn’t find a decent Swedish online store that had it in stock. Went out in the real world and bought it at Megastore instead. Later I stumbled onto the thriller “Body Of Evidence” while comparing prices for “Short Cuts”. Madonna and Julianne Moore in the same movie! Only 40 SEK including shipping from DVDSoon.com. That’s nothing to fuss about, even though I’m perfectly aware that it might not fit my new policy for the shelf. :)
..the real movies? The joy from getting a pair of movie tickets at SF didn’t last very long. Looking at their coming attractions, there’s absolutely nothing I feel like watching for months. Where did they find all that crap? There’s one movie though, that I’ve actually been looking forward to. The new Julianne Moore movie, The Forgotten… but I’m thinking of getting it on DVD from Swedisc instead since it’s released about the same time as the Swedish premiere. Recommendations anyone?
The snippet mixtape of my favourite tracks this month is here one day earlier than usual because of christmas. Click here to listen! (Streaming with Flash in popup)

Say what you want about Lidl, but they sure sell some nice toothpaste. “DentaLux”. A taste explosion of fresh mint, breezy eucalyptus and a touch of liquorice. :)
While cleaning up my mailbox a little, I found an old mail where I asked if Elektrolochmann had any distribution in Sweden. They didn’t at the moment. Checking back, the Berlin based label Trans Solar is now distributed by Border. :) I had no idea that TS released The (International) Noise Conspiracy’s debut 7″, but more importantly I discovered Monochrome!
“Combining the intensity of punk with the easiness of Scandinavia Pop and the profundity of jazz, Monochrome have their unique and distinctive identity”
The sample mp3 really got me hooked, and since Hotstuff.se generally sucks (I can’t even get on their site right now), I’m gonna try order from X-mist instead…
