The nominations for the 2005 Emmy Awards are announced! Alias is nominated in 4 categories, each one as exciting as the fourth season itself:
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow
Outstanding Costumes for a Series
Outstanding Hairstyling for a Series
Outstanding Stunt Coordination
Since Mr Abrams apparently was more caught up with Lost, his other series which is nominated in 8 categories, Jennifer can probably kiss that Emmy goodbye. Taking a closer look at the Costumes category, which is obviously Alias’ specialty (they’ve made that perfectly clear in the new intro for season 4), Deadwood is probably the only real challenger. Call me bitter, but I seriously doubt there will be a single Emmy awarded to the Alias team. Please Mr Abrams, you need to focus on one show at a time, and try not to mix up the scripts again. We deserve better.

The magnificent Criterion Collection will be extended with a full, uncut DVD version of The Man Who Fell To Earth, starring David Bowie, this september! Full details here. September is also the month when we get to see the DVD release of his spaghetti western movie, Gunslinger’s Revenge (more details). The list just grows, I haven’t even gotten myself the 2 latest seasons of Seinfeld or Dead Like Me yet..

The guys and girl of Shocknina have finally posted some songs for download on their site. Slick, popish industrial metal from the former Kidneythieves. I must say I prefer, the now solo, Free Dominguez’s voice, but “Woman’s Cry” and “Liberate Me” are definately not bad.

Although their singles have been full of them, I didn’t expect a remix album from Bloc Party. It is to be released on August 29 according to CD-Wow. “Silent Alarm” is one of my absolute favourite albums so far this year, but I doubt this remixed version will improve anything at all, except for maybe the Pretty Girls Make Graves remix of “Positive Tension”, which I’m really looking forward to. :) That and their new album…

Dave Devries asked himself what a child’s drawings would look like if painted realistically? The experiment resulted in a book and an exhibition. Check out The Monster Engine! Amazing stuff.

“Don’t Take It Away” by Devics came up random in iTunes. Pure indiepop bliss! So beautiful, so emotional. It strikes me down everytime. Their new EP “Distant Radio” is released tomorrow on June 14th. Listen to the title track streamed here!

Somewhat depressed from missing Ron Sexsmith’s free gig over at Debaser, I instantly got in a better mood when finding out that Ram-Zet’s third album, “Intra” is finally out! I’m a sucker for female voices in metal, and in this case especially the schizophrenic soundscapes, mixing beautiful ethereal melodies and voices with industrial rage and aggressive guitar riffs. :)
I also found the reason behind the sudden disappearance of Disco Volante’s “Black Heart” single (Video). A dispute between the band and their former manager prevents it from reaching the stores. Can be bought through their homepage for now though. :)

Up. Down. Down. Up. Down. Up. Down. Down. It actually took a while until I accepted the fact that my webhosting provider was simply incompetent. Now on a new server (Thanks to Svante!) I will try to reclaim my online life, which has suffered a lot. Some of the latest stuff is missing because of not being able to backup during this time. I also took the opportunity to upgrade to WordPress 1.5.1.1.

Today is the official release of Mac OSX Tiger! John Siracusa has written an extremely complete and technical review of it. 21 pages. Interesting just to skim through it. Personal highlights: Quartz, Quicktime and Dashboard.

A Porcupine Tree solo projects sampler is now available to buy online from their official store! It contains 77 minutes of music (mostly instrumental?) from all of the members various solo and collaborative projects. This is a must buy for two reasons: Their latest album “Deadwing” is amazing, and the sampler only costs 3 pounds. :)

Without sponsors or government support, Loveparade 2005 was cancelled today. Just as last year, it was hard finding a good sponsor. Loveparade spokesperson, Sünje von Ahn, says they will put all their efforts in a comeback for 2006, right after the football worldcup in Germany.
I’ll get to see Berlin anyway this summer. The Tori Amos concert on June 21. :)

Read the full version of David Bowie’s tribute to Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails, published in the latest Rolling Stone magazine.
“I had a strange dream the other week … Our meal was served by one of the members of Einsturzende Neubauten.”
If not for Trent, you can at least find out about the rest of his dream. :)

I’ve been waking up sweaty several nights now, probably from the increasing spring warmth, with all sorts of dreamy visions. One time I though something was flowing from the walls. Had to turn on the light just to make sure it wasn’t. :P Last night I found out what was causing it though… The pulsating stand-by lamp from my Ibook. :) Talk about ghost in the machine (ghost.3gp) . It’s gonna have to face the other wall from now on…

A recording of the Monkeytribe live set from Subclub on 28th January 2005 will be aired on Radio Magnetic this Wednesday! They’re behind one of last year’s best albums, and performed some of their new material that night. Instrumental preview versions can be downloaded from their site. Audio Hijack should be able to record the show for me while I’m at work. The extreme buffering from Magnetic at the moment is driving me crazy.. The nice music and Scottish accent compensate for it though. :)
Update: Upgrading to Windows Media Player 9 solved the buffering.
