Best Of 2004

It’s been a great musical year! I almost feel spoiled. So instead of saying “these are the 10 best albums”, I’d rather present them as the 10 albums of 2004 I’m most happy about. Sorted by release date, with links to official sites and earlier entries. Feel free to comment or trackback your own lists!

In Strict Confidence – Holy (link#1#2)
The slickest electropop, for both listening and dancing, with a gothish flavour.

Auf Der Maur – Auf Der Maur (link)
Melissa solo sure knows how to make great hard popish rock.

**C.Aarmé – C.Aarmé (link)
“Sweden’s punk militia”. Makes me wanna headbang wearing a Kermit mask.

Zero 7 – When It Falls (link)
Warms me during winter and chills me when it’s hot. Soulful electronica at it’s best.

Ron Sexsmith – Retriever (link)
He just keeps getting better and better.

Hope Of The States – The Lost Riots (link#1)
This year’s britrock sensation! Believe the hype!

Blanka – Paloma Blanka (link#1#2)
The debut album 2004 was all about waiting for!

Monkeytribe – Choose Freedom (link#1)
Creative blend of organic and electronic hip/trip/hop from Glasgow.

Stina Nordenstam – The World Is Saved (link)
Her most solid album yet? Love that subtle jazz.

Sarah Blasko – The Overture And The Underscore (link)
Superb production! Intimate singer/songwriter pop from Australia.

Let’s not forget the top 5 movies:

Gegen die Wand (imdb)
My absolute favourite is this dark but beautiful Turkish/German drama. You really need to grab on to those few glimpses of light to get through it. Very moving.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (imdb#1)
Bad Santa (imdb#1)
Cold Mountain (imdb#1)
Collateral (imdb#1)
